The Kids are heading back to school let’s help them get there safe!

MARYSVILLE, WA – The kids are heading back to school next week, so we need to be extra vigilant and drive smart in residential areas and school zones.

A few things to help keep your kids safe while walking and biking to and school:

·         Always cross the street with an adult until age 10

·         Cross the street at corners using traffic signals & crosswalks

·         Look left, right and left again prior to crossing

·         Wear bright or reflective clothing to increase visibility

·         Always walk, never run when crossing streets

·         Walk on sidewalks or paths

·         Walk facing traffic or as far away from the road if there are no sidewalks

·         Never run out into the street or cross between parked cars

·         If riding a bike, scooter or skateboard, ALWAYS wear the appropriate helmet – walk, don’t ride across the street and use hand signals

For parents and drivers:

·         Slow down & be alert in residential areas and school zones

·         Reduce distractions inside your car

·         Be sure all the riders in your vehicle are properly restrained, everyone should have their own seat belt

·         Remember, children under 13 are safer in the back seat, and it’s the law!
