Marysville Volunteer Program (MVP)

Marysville Volunteer Program (MVP), previously known as the Seniors Against Crime Program, was organized in December of 1989 to meet a need determined by the Police Department - that of providing residential vacation house checks to lessen the possibilities of residential burglaries. Fourteen members were recruited, uniformed, trained and scheduled to conduct house checks. Shortly afterwards, the Marysville School District requested that MSAC volunteers patrol school grounds and surrounding neighborhoods where children walk to and from school each day. This program was introduced to the students at the school assemblies and was started to provide protection to the school children.

MVP also oversees all Neighborhood Block Watches in the city and to date has organized over fifty neighborhoods. This program has been very effective in reducing residential burglaries within the city.

MVP Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide crime prevention education to the residents of the City of Marysville utilizing the volunteer services of citizens working jointly with the uniformed officers of the Marysville Police Department.

Crime prevention education is accomplished through organizing and monitoring the Neighborhood Block Watch Program, presenting lectures to various citizen groups in the areas of personal safety, disaster preparedness, and conducting residential and commercial secruity inspections.

Additionally, members provide services to the citizens of Marysville in the areas of both adult and child safety.

MVP is a year-round program that exists through the dedication of volunteers. This program allows commissioned police officers to focus their efforts on other proactive policing duties. The effectiveness of MVP has been demonstrated by a reduction in crime. This program has been shared with several law enforcement agencies across the state and exemplifies how volunteer senior citizens can be used in crime prevention.

MVP Volunteers donate approximately 150-175 hours each month.
